Farm in a Box ONLINE

Come down to the farm to meet the Country Trust Farmers...and their animals!  Children find out where the food in their cupboard has come from and investigate the creatures that live near them.

We’ve adapted our highly successful Farm in a Box experience so that it can be delivered at home, as well as in the classroom - and with minimal resources.

Farm in a Box ONLINE is a combination of video content that comes directly from our host farms and hands-on activities. It connects children with the countryside, food and farming.

"I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Farm in a Box ONLINE.  The resources were very well prepared and easy to provide to children, so they could take part in activities at home."

St Lawrence's Primary, Byker

What’s involved?

Through our exclusive video content children ‘visit’ several Country Trust farms across the country. They meet our amazing host farmers and their animals, see what they’re growing and learn about life on their farm.

Teachers choose from a selection of activities that can be completed at home and at school simultaneously. There are three accompanying resource packs, each with a different theme: animals; birds; and food from farms.  The activities come with instructions and some basic resources that can be easily printed off or viewed on a screen.

The activities are designed to:

  • help the children to get outside (even if that’s standing on their doorstep or opening a window) to see and hear their environment through new eyes and in minute detail
  • make the connection between food and farming
  • help the children understand how their lives are intimately linked to those of the farmers and to understand a little bit of what farming involves

"Children and parents enjoyed having time to stand and listen to the animal sounds rather than being at a screen - breather!" -

Gedney Church End Primary School

The children at home and at school might come together during live lessons for a group discussion about what they’ve seen around them; they could compare their different environments and discuss what is similar to the farms. They might just report back on the wildlife they’ve seen or heard.

"The lessons look great and we are going to use them as part of our Y2 curriculum but also as part of our recovery curriculum."
