Watch now: Our Teacher and Host Webinar
The Country Trust Hosts’ Webinar and The Country Trust Teacher Webinar took place in September and December, respectively. In the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the virtual meetings served as opportunities to connect with our wonderful farmers and teachers, and to provide them with guidance and reassurance on the safest ways to give children engaging and educational farm experiences.
Presentations included the latest Health and Safety guidance for farmers and teachers, and details of how we are adapting activities in accordance with this to ensure our visits are safe, but deliver the inspirational experiences that you expect of us.
The two webinars presented the perfect opportunity to announce the launch of our brilliantly newly developed programme, Farm in a Box, which is designed to be delivered in school. Introduced by Project Manager Katie Watts and Product Developer Sally Hetheringon-Aherne, the boxes are centred on a local farm and contain a variety of hands-on, investigative outdoor activities that are curriculum focused and support wellbeing and language. Farm in a Box is a wonderful way to maintain the connection between the pupils and their local farmers, until they can reunite on the farm.
We were also delighted to have been joined by superb guest speakers Mark Bridgeman of the CLA, and Alistair Bryce-Clegg, founder of the Early Years education platform ABC Does, addressed our farmer hosts, and Professor Mick Waters, who currently works with schools in the West Midlands in raising educational standards, inspired his fellow educators at our Teacher Webinar.
Many of the children attending our visits experience overwhelming challenges in their daily lives, which have been amplified by the current social and political backdrop. We are ever more appreciative of the farmers without whom our work would not be possible, and of the teachers that have provided stability for these children, during what has been a turbulent year for all.
