From the bottom of our welly boots - thank you, volunteers!

There was a fantastic mix of people; some were groups of corporate volunteers from Hiscox and Stonebond, some were individuals who had signed up for a day of volunteering through the Chelmsford Volunteering Service and others were regular volunteers who have helped us with the previous Farm in a Box packing days. 

On Parklands Farm in Galleywood a production line was formed – building boxes, adding compost, sand, flour, sieves, cups, seeds, peas, wheat, 8 sensory bags, all the activity sheets and cards, posters and finally some fresh Warburtons bread delivered that very morning to the farm. By lunchtime, all the boxes were stacked up high and after lunch, the volunteers happily loaded them all into the back of a DPD van to be sent off to the schools the very next day. A great team effort!

Anna Gordon, Farm in a Box Project Manager said “volunteers are essential in ensuring the timely delivery of the Boxes. The 205 Boxes have been ordered by schools located in the highest areas of deprivation across the country. For many of the children who will participate in the project, it’ll be the first time that they'll ‘experience the farm’ - touch, smell taste and learn about the role farmers and farming has in their day-to-day lives. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped make this project a success.”
