Fabulous farm and cookery taster days

As part of a Food Discovery taster session, Farm Discovery Coordinator Anna Hare took year 4 Children from St Lawrence's C of E Primary School, York on an action-packed visit to Sledmere Estate in Driffield, Yorkshire.

The children went on a tractor and trailer ride around the estate to see deer that are breed for Waitrose venison. They then visited the farm to look at pigs, beef cows, and met a huge Blonde bull called Gladstone!

After a picnic lunch, it was off to explore the walled garden were the children were given vegetables and herbs for cooking.

The learning doesn't stop there, as the next day Anna went into the school and showed the children how to cook delicious vegetable cous cous with some of the vegetables they'd been given. They also got to taste oatcakes, haggis and smoked salmon as part of their Scotland curriculum topic.

Sounds amazing!
