Hunter Adair
A Guide to the Countryside by Hunter Adair Hunter Adair, a countryman living and farming in Hexham, Northumberland, has written a series of 8 books about the countryside. He has agreed to allow the books to be published on The Country Trust’s website so that schools up and down the country can access and download the books to teach children about the countryside. The books contain more than 500 photographs and drawings, all done by Hunter. Sets of the books have already been donated to many primary schools in the North of England and in Scotland.
Hunter Adair was born and raised in Ayrshire in 1933 on a farm. He has been involved in countryside matters all his life. He worked for the Milk Marketing Board for 30 years and now runs the family farm in Hexham. Several years ago the Ministry of Agriculture asked Hunter to take some school children into the countryside to visit farms and dairies. He soon discovered that they knew little about rural matters and so the Guide to the Countryside was conceived. During 2002 Hunter was presented with an award certificate for being a runner up as the Country Person of the Year.
